ORLANDO, Fla. (Eagle News) – Looking to avenge their most recent loss to Boston, the Bucks took out their frustrations and bullied their way to an impressive 123 to 91 victory over the Orlando Magic. Led by Giannis Antetokounmpo’s 29 points and 14 rebounds, the Bucks took control in the second quarter and never looked back.
“We were a little bit upset. As a team from the previous loss, we came out with extra juice,” said Antetokounmpo. “We were moving the ball. We were defending and especially when we defend, we become a problem [for the other team].”
Orlando started out hot and quickly jumped to a 13-point advantage. Led by Evan Fournier’s 10 points in the first quarter, it seemed this game would be a highly competitive affair. But sloppy play and turnovers plagued the Magic as Milwaukee held them to only 14 points in the second, leading 62-41 at the half.
For the game, Milwaukee was able to capitalize on 16 Magic turnovers. This led to a huge advantage in points in the paint, 54 to 32, and fast break points, 36 to 2. The Bucks also received huge contributions from the entire team as the bench posted 57 points.
“They were ready tonight. They were passing the ball. They were knocking down shots. They were playing defense. They were getting in passing lanes. And that’s what we want them to do and they did it tonight and they got to keep doing it,” said Antetokounmpo on the spark the bench provided.
“It’s a credit to them. They work hard, they stay prepared, they’re ready for their opportunity and they took advantage of it,” said Bucks Head Coach Mike Budenholzer in regards to their bench play. “I think it speaks a lot to our depth and the quality of our wings.”
The Bucks will need to rely heavily on their bench as they head home for their first back-to-back against the defending NBA champs Toronto Raptors.
“We’re going to be very important,” said Sterling Brown on the back-to-back games. “Like tonight, we had to bring the energy to help the starters. They’re going to do the same thing. We feed off each other, we’re a team.”
